"African Beauty" official selection at the San Francisco Black Film Festival 2025

The documentary African Beauty has been officially selected for the San Francisco Black Film Festival (SFBFF)which will be held from 19 to 22 June 2025. This inclusion highlights the growing international relevance of the work, which has already attracted attention at several renowned festivals.

A tour of international festivals

African Beauty has had an outstanding presence in several international festivals:

  • FESTin 2025The documentary was presented at the Portuguese Language Travelling Film Festival in Lisbon, which took place from 2 to 9 June 2025.
  • Moritz Feed Dog 2025: In March, African Beauty was screened at the Barcelona Fashion Documentary Film Festival, which took place from 19 to 23 March 2025.
  • AFRIFF 2024The documentary was part of the official selection of the Africa International Film Festival in Lagos, Nigeria, held from 3 to 9 November 2024.
  • British Urban Film Festival (BUFF) 2024: African Beauty was screened at the London Film Festival in October 2024, a platform recognised for qualifying for the BAFTA awards.

Exploring contemporary African aesthetics

Directed by Coréon Dú, African Beauty offers an in-depth look at contemporary African aesthetics. Through interviews with more than 30 creatives, the documentary examines the challenges, nuances and stereotypes faced by African artists, as well as the appropriation of their talent by Western gazes.

A legacy at the San Francisco Black Film Festival

The selection of African Beauty for SFBFF 2025 continues the legacy of Angolan productions at this festival. In 2015, Njinga: Queen of Angolastarring Lesliana Pereira and produced by Coréon Dú, was also part of the official selection, highlighting the richness of African cinema on international stages.
